What does it take to be a disciple?
This answer is pretty clear. If we abide (remain like bone) in both the written and living word, we are His disciples. And knowing the truth of the Word, will set us free.
This is amazing! We abide or remain in Christ, and intimately knowing Jesus ... sets us free.
So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:31-32
But, have you counted the cost of the new found freedom that flows from His Truth? Yes, have you sat down and counted the cost of being His disciple?
The cost, is yourself and all you are.
"So therefore, any one of you who does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple." Luke 14:33
You died, you don't belong to you. Knowing you belong to another and are alive in Christ simply for the benefit of others .... will set you free from YOU.
Why?
If you don't belong to you, then by His grace, everything you need is full supply!
When you are dead to you, you are finally free to be alive in Him. And. The more dead you are to you, the more of Christ and His kingdom power will flow through you.
Too many believers will say the cost is too high. I'd just say a dead man has no need, no desire, and no time to resist the will of God.
