Judas and Thanatos

“Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste DEATH (thanatos) until they SEE the Son of Man coming (returning) in his kingdom.” Matthew 16:28

Regarding individuals “NOT tasting death” - I’ve had many universalists over the years give me this to prove everyone has to be saved because either:

1) The Son of Man hasn’t returned yet. Or …
2) The Son of Man returned in 70 AD.

Neither is correct ...

Jesus is speaking to the disciples, but primarily to JUDAS, the betrayer. The word “death” in the Greek is Thanatos (yes, this is where the name of death wielding Thanos comes from in the Marvel movies).

Thanatos means SECOND DEATH.

Jesus is saying that JUDAS wouldn’t taste the SECOND DEATH (LAKE OF FIRE) until the Son of Man returns with His holy angels to bring judgment to the nations (Matthew 25:31-33).

Peeps. Judas is currently in Sheol awaiting final judgment .... and “woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been better for that man if he had not been born.” Matthew 26:24

Everyone isn't saved, and sadly Judas is in that crowd.
