Lip Service

Many Jewish people as tradition, kiss the Torah as it marches past them during temple service. But, they don’t honor what the Torah actually says about loving their neighbor.

Basically, it’s lip service. Revered as the holy word, but not acted upon.

Yet. Christians do the very same thing with communion.

As the serving plates come by, we as tradition pass the bread and wine through our own lips. But we fail to actually DO communion with others.

Huh?

When we take communion, we aren’t just reflecting or thanking God for what Christ did for us upon the cross - we are also pronouncing or professing the covenant of our co-participation WITH Jesus.

To bless the bread and wine before God, is to REMEMBER and RECOMMIT our active, participatory role in the kingdom.

Even though God could do everything in the earth on His own, God can’t because that would actually violate His own will.

As co heir, WE are to make earth look like heaven ... WITH Jesus. In the eyes of God, we are Plan A, B, and C.

“The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ?”

1 Corinthians 10:16
