The Crushing

Peeps. The gifts are free, but the oil that powers them is costly.

You are the ingrafted branch of the olive tree (Jesus). All you do is take in the nutrients of the tree trunk. You do nothing but abide (remain) and olives simply appear on your limbs (Romans 11).

These olives growing on your limbs are the fruit of righteousness (Phil 1:11). These olives are the exact character and nature of Jesus, and are the exact representation of who He is.

Why?

Olive trees grow olives.

Remember, in the parable of the weeds Jesus the Son of Man is planting seeds in the earth to grow sons of God (Matthew 13).

Yet the only way to make olive oil is to crush the olive. In your crushing, yes the oil flows.

Without first pressing the olive, the uses for the olive remain very limited.

Yet. The more we are pressed, the more our limitations within our given giftings are refined, shaped, and matured by the power of the Holy Spirit. Truly, increased power comes to fuel the gifts themselves.

Why?

For in the pressing or crushing we learn trusting surrender … and the more His Spirit comes to rest upon us.

“But we have this treasure (oil) in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us. We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; For we who live are always being given over to death for Jesus' sake, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies. So death is at work in us, but life in you.” 2 Cor 4:7-12
