The Law Fulfilled

To fulfill the law, we love others. That's simple, right? Romans 13:8-10

It's an easy peasy list of do NOT's ...

  • Do NOT steal.
  • Do NOT murder.
  • Do NOT commit adultery.
  • Do NOT covet.
  • Do NOT bear false witness.
  • Do NOT have other gods.
  • Do NOT make idols.
  • Do NOT forget the Sabbath.
  • Do NOT forget to honor your parents.
  • Do NOT take The Lord's name in vain.

At worst, if you do NOTHING bad to your neighbor, you can still love your neighbor as yourself. Let's get real peeps, most of us are experts at doing nothing intentionally bad to ourselves!

Law fulfilled, let's go get tacos!

Wait.

But, Jesus ups the ante of love:

"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:34-35 (ESV)

This type of agape love is a DO

The law is fulfilled in our NOT doing harm, yet our love for Jesus is fulfilled in DOING good to others.

Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons.

Then get tacos.
