The Saguaro Cactus

This week in Arizona I learned about the Saguaro cactus ... in this pic you can see many of them in the distance.

BUT. Only ONE seed in 500 MILLION seeds dispersed across the desert landscape actually SURVIVES to become a MATURE tree.

Why?

Extreme weather conditions and animals that prey on the seeds and/or small growing plants ... makes it difficult for the seed to grow. Yet, those seeds that are dropped directly under a tree have a much better chance of survival because the protective tree helps in the extreme heat/cold and animals don't look to eat directly under the trees.

Much the same. Those believers who STAY in the shelter of the most high and ABIDE in the tree of life (Jesus)... will make it through the PERSECUTION that comes with desiring to grow in The Lord.

"Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted." 2 Tim 3:12

Persecution isn't just people trying to kill you, it's not just an angry mob at your front door .... it's the devil and his minions (demons, people, situations) trying to wear you out. Yes, literally trying to wear out the DESIRE that has been planted in you.

This is why so few baby Christians grow or mature.

Like the Saguaro, we must choose to persevere, fight the good fight of faith, and stand tall in the desert.
