Today at my son's wedding they gave me 10 minutes to bless the marriage and the food …. I did it in 2 minutes. It’s a wedding miracle!!
So. Here’s what I said, but I’m including some stuff that I didn’t say …. because it’s probably not “happy, peppy” wedding stuff.
The Lord tells us in Malachi 2:13-14 that when we take a wife, we take that wife by covenant … and The Lord is the WITNESS of that covenant.
The word witness in the Hebrew is “ood” and it means to repair, restore, and to surround without spot or wrinkle.
Yes. The Lord is saying that no matter what you go through in a marriage - He is your covenant mediator Who promises to be the protector of that union!
But. The word “ood” also means to say over and over and over “I am your witness.” Yes. The Lord is CONSTANTLY saying, “Look to Me, I AM YOUR WITNESS!”
Now. Here’s the not so peppy part that I didn’t say. The Lord was saying this to Jewish men who were taking gentile wives … when the Lord told them NOT TO! And, then they were divorcing those wives.
The Lord is basically saying to Israel, “You chose someone to marry that I didn’t choose for you … but I’m your witness to this covenant and I’m here to make this work.”
The Lord loves covenant. The Lord loves marriage. The Lord loves being the protector of marriage. The Lord loves the covenant of marriage because it’s the surrender of man and wife to each other.
Yes. Surrendered love is exactly what The Lord has with us. If we let Him!
“Another thing you do: You flood the LORD’s altar with tears. You weep and wail because he no longer looks with favor on your offerings or accepts them with pleasure from your hands. You ask, “Why?” It is because the LORD is the witness between you and the wife of your youth. You have been unfaithful to her, though she is your partner, the wife of your marriage covenant.” Malachi 2:13-14
