Balance is so important. Even creation displays balance.
If the earth were too close to the sun, we'd fry. If the earth were too far from the sun, we'd freeze.
If the earth's gravity were too strong, we'd be pancaked. If the earth's gravity were too weak, we'd float off the planet.
If the earth's oxygen levels were too strong, we'd walk around disoriented. If the earth's oxygen levels were too weak, we'd suffocate.
Any position of far extreme excludes other truths.
If we focus solely on the fact that I'm a dad, we miss out on the 100% truth that I'm also a husband.
If we focus solely on the fact that I'm a son, we miss out on the 100% truth that I'm also a brother.
If we focus solely on the fact that I'm a school counselor, we miss out on the 100% truth that I'm also a teacher.
It's no different with scripture.
We cannot mandate God is only love (as per John) and at the same time declare God isn't also a God of judgment (yes, even when the same John declares as so).
We cannot demand people do things a certain way (legalism) and at the same time tell them that they serve a God of love and grace.
We cannot tell people they are free (grace) and not tell them that God also holds them accountable (judgment).
We cannot declare our spiritual freedom, and at the same time not declare we are also slaves to righteousness.
We cannot declare all sin is paid for, and at the same time not scream at the top of our lungs we don't belong to ourselves.
We cannot mandate God is love, and not also embrace that God disciplines His children.
Without HIS balance, truths are compromised and the sheep walk in extreme positions that will only eventually bring them to their demise.
