All In

I didn’t say it. Jesus did.

Another of the 👉 disciples said to him, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.” And Jesus said to him, “Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their own dead.” Matthew 8:21-22

Yep. A disciple. May have been one of the 72, but regardless this person was regarded as a follower of Jesus.

I’m sorry. But. There is a cost to being a disciple.

Jesus was literally saying to this disciple that the things of the kingdom were more important than spending time with his own father before he was to fully age and die.

Jesus wasn’t condemning the love for his father or the desire to spend time with him, yet it was a matter of priorities.

Why?

Because if it’s not one thing it will certainly be another.

We must prioritize.
We must focus.
We must fix our gaze.
We must shed all distraction.

In an era of tik tok, busyness, and constant distraction, Jesus is still an “all in” kind of a guy.

“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Matthew 6:32
